Online retailer Amazon has agreed to purchase the service of books recommendations Goodreads. It was said in an American retailer's press release on its website.
Amazon announced its future integration with the social services of book opportunities provided Goodreads. Amazon is known for its Kindle service of electronic books, as well as the online store of books, from which the company started its business in 1994.
The deal has not been disclosed, but Forbes magazine has suggested that it is about eight figures price. According to news archive of transactions from Crunchbase, Goodreads has attracted 2.75 million dollars in investments during its lifetime.
It is noteworthy that in January 2012 Goodreads refused to use the API from Amazon, thus rejecting the ability to index books bought at Amazon and located in the Kindle reader. As it was explained by the creators of the service, the conditions of access to archives of online retailer were too strict.
Goodreads is a social service directory which is relying on users' taste recommends them books. The users can also see the recommendations of their friends and read their books. The service was launched in January 2007, and today the California company has 16 million users. According to the company, users have added more than 530 million books in their virtual "shelf", and wrote more than 23 million reviews on them.
